The 2022 Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) International Landscape Design Conference will be held July 21 – 25, 2022 in Chicago.
Thursday, July 21, will feature a pre-conference tour to Ball Horticultural and Hursthouse Garden Design. This full-day tour will start with an exclusive look at the newly renovated Ball Horticultural company campus and the new Helix Innovation Center. The recent campus site design is by Chicago landscape architects Hoerr-Schaudt. The superior exhibit gardens feature a plethora of flowering and foliage plants. Lunch will be served on site, followed by a tour of a private, residential, award-winning design by Hursthouse Landscape Architects.
The main conference will be held Friday, July 22 through Sunday, July 24 and will feature informative education and exclusive garden tours. Speakers will include Margie Grace, CPLD; Craig Bergmann, RLA, ASLA; Giacomo Guzzon; Joe Hanauer, ASLA; and Jack Pizzo.
Monday, July 25 will feature a post-conference tour of Pizzo Native Plant Nursery and Jack Pizzo’s home. Pizzo is regarded as an expert in successful natural areas restorations, sustainable landscapes and growing native plants. The post-conference tour will visit the 8-acre Pizzo Native Plant Nursery headquarters, with production of 1,200,000 native plants. There are also 32.5 acres of restored prairie and wetland including a glacial kame with dry prairie. It is home to more than 200 species of native plants including three species of native orchid. The tour will then proceed to Pizzo’s home, 40 acres of former beanfield and farmed wetland that has been restored with 200 species of native plants.
