Agrium Advanced Technologies supports PLANET Day of Service projects

Agrium Advanced Technologies (AAT), a manufacturer of slow- and controlled-release fertilizers and micronutrient products, donated its earth-friendly fertilizers to various Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Day of Service  projects supporting veterans, families of troops and schools.

AAT offered its Polyon and Duration CR fertilizers to lawn care and landscape companies conducting PLANET Day of Service projects at veterans’ memorials, homes of military families and schools. AAT is a lead sponsor of the first annual nationwide PLANET Day of Service for the lawn care and landscape management industry on Earth Day, April 22, 2009. PLANET Day of Service enables association members and partners in the lawn care and landscape management profession to create projects in their own communities where the need is greatest.

“PLANET Day of Service gives AAT and other PLANET members the chance to give something back to the veterans and troops who selflessly serve our country,” said Andrew Mittag, president of AAT. “It’s a remarkable opportunity to help these military families and to bolster environmental stewardship and sustainability in their communities.”

AAT’s earth-friendly fertilizers were used this Earth Day at PLANET Day of Service projects in Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Massachusetts.

RS Unlimited Landscaping Inc., a total grounds maintenance company in Cleveland, Mo., used the donated fertilizers from AAT in planter beds surrounding the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Mo.

Farmside Landscape & Design, a full-service landscape contractor in Wantage, N.J., is helping the Wantage Township Recreation Commission construct a memorial to honor veterans. Farmside applied AAT’s fertilizer to trees and shrubs that were planted throughout the memorial.

Turf Appeal, a professional management services company in Oklahoma City, sponsored two military families from the Oklahoma City metro area for its PLANET Day of Service project. Turf Appeal will use the donated fertilizer from AAT in maintaining landscape makeovers for these two families.

In Grandville, Mass., the Grandville Village School launched a project on PLANET Day of Service to completely renovate the athletic fields and grounds of the school. The year-long project includes planting beds, grade and sod the fields, installation of irrigation and lighting. AAT donated its fertilizer for the project, which is spearheaded by AAT’s Andy Drohen, sales representative.
