ASIC Excellence in Irrigation

The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) announced two 2023 Excellence in Irrigation winners: Baha Mar Resort and Confidential Warehouse Project.

ASIC Excellence in Irrigation

Baha Mar Resort, New Providence Bahamas, won the Honor Award, Commercial and Public Works – Large Projects. The consultant on the project was Michael Prevost of Prevost Stamper, Inc. The consultant was involved with the design and construction administration of the irrigation systems at the 265-acre resort for 12 years. All irrigation is supplied by a central pump station location and distribution pipe system designed by the consultant. Each irrigation system is controlled by a weather-based central control system with flow sensing and water management equipment. The consultant successfully delivered six phases of large-scale irrigation design and contract management while meeting water conservation and budget goals. The work involved a large volume of information and design solutions provided to five different design teams of various trades over 10 years. Each new system was folded seamlessly into the previous phase of development under the consultant’s direction and master planning efforts.

Confidential Warehouse Project, Victorville, California, won the Merit Award, Commercial and Public Works – Large Projects. The consultant on the project was Chris Curry, Glasir Design. This confidential warehouse project is a 71.4-acre site. The project was required to be split between on-site private irrigation system points of connection and off-site city-maintained right-of-way irrigation system points of connection. The consultant was involved with bidding/construction plans; coordination with the city, civil, manufacturers and electrical engineer; review of requests for information from bidding contractors; review of irrigation equipment submittals by the awarded contractor; as well as construction observations, pre-construction meetings, mainline pressure test/valve location review, coverage test, and pre-maintenance walk/punch list. The consultant was challenged by the owner to use only one manufacturer and design with a very tight budget.
