The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) announced the winners of its 2013 Roy Williams Memorial Award, and the 2013 Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award.


Irrigation Consultant David D. Davis, FASIC, with David D. Davis and Associates in Crestline, Calif., was awarded the ASIC 2013 Roy Williams Memorial Award.


Davis, an ASIC Fellow who opened his doors for business in 1985 and still consults today, has been a force for the irrigation industry, providing comprehensive irrigation consulting services over the decades to the golf course and recreation sports industry, among others. He is an accomplished designer and educator, and holds a State of California lifetime teaching credential for mathematics.


Generous with both his time and expertise, Davis has been instrumental in training generations of irrigation practitioners through seminars, workshops and handbooks. Over the decades, Davis’ personal mission in developing state-of-the-art, practical solutions to everyday irrigation problems has profoundly influenced golf course superintendents, turfgrass managers and water managers, as well as irrigation contractors and technicians. His expertise in developing environmentally sensitive sites embodies the mission of the Professional Irrigation Consultant.


 


Irrigation Consultant Jim Barrett, FASIC, president of James Barrett Associates LLC, (JBA) in Roseland, NJ, was awarded the American Society of Irrigation Consultants 2013 Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award.


Barrett, a past president of ASIC and a current member of the Society’s certification and bylaws committees, founded his independent irrigation consulting company in 1985 after 13 years with Robert Trent Jones, Inc. as a design associate and irrigation designer. Specializing in golf course irrigation systems, JBA was one of the first independent irrigation consulting firms in the country. He has worked on more than 350 golf courses both in the U.S. and abroad, including at one time a majority of the top-10 rated golf courses in the country. He holds certifications in golf irrigation design and landscape auditing, and is a recipient of the Irrigation Association (IA) Industry Achievement Award; a member of the IA Board of Directors, and its history, standards and technical committees.
