Ed Harman earns CGM status

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) announced that Ed Harman of Bryn Mawr, Pa. has become the 126th grounds management professional to successfully complete its Certified Grounds Manager (CGM) program. Harman currently serves as the assistant director for grounds at Bryn Mawr College where he has been for the past 18 months.

Harman, a PGMS member since 1999, wanted to become a CGM because he feels, “grounds managers should apply themselves towards trainings, certifications, and degrees to promote professional relevance in the green industry.”

After completing the two-part exam process, Harman reflected on his thoughts about the program. “The program is terrific because it validates the investment that grounds managers make to create programs, policies, and procedures which benefit their organizations” he said.

As for advice for aspiring CGM’s Harman encourages them to go for it! “The updated information on the PGMS Web site offers great insight to the CGM exam. Remember the entire PGMS organization is there to assist you, ask questions, seek a mentor, go for it!” he exclaims.

Those achieving the CGM professional designation must have first accomplished a set level of education and on-the-job experience and then successfully completed a two-part examination process administered by PGMS.
