The Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET’s) annual Legislative Days on Capitol Hill began with a dinner Monday night, July 9, 2012 ,with keynote speaker Representative Rob Wittman (R-VA), who spoke to PLANET members about in importance of H-2B. He also took questions from the audience about the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, health care and other issues important to this industry.
The next morning, the day started early with a breakfast with Representative Jean Schmidt (R-OH) who spoke to the group about the importance of talking to their legislators about issues affecting their businesses. More than 100 PLANET members and their families met with legislators or staff from their local districts to talk about issues facing the lawn and landscape industry including; over regulation, NPDES permits, H-2B, and Lyme disease. PLANET members visited with representatives from approximately 20 states.
