Manitou introduces ULM Compact Telehandler to North America

Manitou ULM Telehandler

Manitou presents a new line of ultra-compact telescopic handlers — the ULM (Ultra-Light Manitou) 412 and ULM 415 — to North America. These nimble machines easily maneuver through tight jobsites and excel as loaders, telehandlers or rough terrain forklifts. Manitou worked with rental companies to offer this new range of telehandlers, designed for customer profitability while providing versatility, robustness and ease of maintenance.

The new ULM units offer new opportunities in diverse markets including equipment rental, construction, renovation sites, agriculture and landscape. At just under 60 inches wide and 76 inches tall, the ULM 412 and ULM 415 machines feature powerful performance in a compact footprint. Maximum lift height for both units is 14 feet 1 inch with maximum capacity of 2,200 pounds for the ULM 412, and 2,650 pounds for the ULM 415.

The Manitou ULM models are equipped with a two-speed hydrostatic transmission and a 35-hp Yanmar diesel engine. Paired with four-wheel drive, four-wheel steer, oscillating rear axle, high ground clearance of 11.5 inches and an 8-foot, 7-inch outside turning radius to work well on all-terrain environments and confined spaces.

The key advantage of the Manitou ULM is its ease of operation along with the ability to be transported by pick-up truck and trailer. The empty vehicle weight for the ULM is under 6,000 pounds (5,622 pounds on the ULM 412 and 5,952 pounds on the ULM 415) providing a material handling solution to contractors wishing to transport their equipment easily from site to site.

Ease of operation using the JSM (Joystick Switch and Move) control provides flexibility and precise machine drive and material placement functions. The metal ROPS guards for these units are replaced with a new transparent, shock-resistant polycarbonate window that is FOPS level I compliant. This feature allows an unobstructed line of sight to the load and forks when operating at elevation.

Simplified maintenance has been taken into the ULM design, offering a large engine hood on the side of the machine for easy access to main components. Service intervals and error codes are displayed within the dashboard display for visible diagnostics. A hatch at the front of the radiators allows dust to be easily removed and the battery is easily accessible underneath the cab. The hydraulic oil tank is fitted with an anti-aeration filter which reduces the volume of hydraulic oil required by 25 percent. The ULM has also been tested in real conditions with over 2,000 hours of internal tests to validate robustness, durability and increased safety.

Manitou Group Attachments offers a full range of universal skid steer attachments for these models. Standard fork carriages, buckets, clamps, sweepers and bag handlers are just some of the many attachment options available to perform a wide range of tasks.
