The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has become well known for its service project, “Renewal and Remembrance,” held each summer at Arlington National Cemetery and Historic Congressional Cemetery. Because of the great interest PLANET members have in serving their communities, PLANET is launching another major service initiative.
The inaugural PLANET Day of Service will take place April 22, 2009. The purpose of the event is to harness the power of the membership to make an impact on community green spaces throughout the country and to raise awareness about the important role that the lawn care and landscape industries play in our lives.
PLANET members throughout the country will create their own projects that will focus on lawn, landscape, tree care and interior plantscape projects, which benefits a chosen venue in their local area. Members and state associations will register their service projects with PLANET and unite across the country for one day of giving back.
The Web site www.planetdayofservice.org has been launched as a one-stop shop for participants. Members will use the Web site to get information and register a project.
