PLANET celebrates one of its own in Congress

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) will hold a fundraiser for PLANET member, U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (D-Pa.), during its annual Legislative Day on the Hill dinner, Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Key Bridge Marriott. Rep. Dahlkemper is a ranking member of the House Small Business Committee and chair of the Subcommittee on Regulations, Health Care and Trade. She also serves on a number of subcommittees, including the Subcommittee on Rural & Urban Entrepreneurship, which allows her to have a voice for small business; and the Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, and Nutrition & Forestry, which well positions her to address local and national issues of significance.

During Legislative Day on the Hill, PLANET members have the opportunity to visit the office of their representatives and senators to discuss issues of vital importance to the green industry. In preparation for their visit to the Hill, on Tuesday, July 14, members will be briefed by political experts on key industry issues on Monday afternoon. Kicking off the briefings will be keynote speaker, Charlie Cook, editor and publisher of the Cook Political Report and columnist for the National Journal. On Monday morning, July 13, PLANET members will also have the opportunity to help maintain and beautify the hallowed grounds of Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries.

The Key Bridge Marriott, located just four miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and within three blocks of the D.C. Metro system, will be the center of activity for this year’s Legislative Day and Renewal & Remembrance. From the hotel, guests have easy access to some of Washington’s most famous landmarks, including the Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, the Kennedy Center, and Georgetown. Hotel reservations can be made by calling 703-524-6400 on or before June 19, 2009, and asking for the PLANET rate.
