Terra Nova Nurseries, a world leader in plant breeding, announced it has hired Ruth Estrada as the company’s trial plant administrator. With an extensive background in managing trial plants, Estrada comes to Terra Nova Nurseries from Monrovia Nurseries, where she was responsible for all phases of production activities for trial plants, including potting, pruning, irrigation, data collection, photography, and communicating with vendors, clients and technical services.


She also brings expertise to Terra Nova Nurseries having worked closely with the director of new plant introductions in her previous role, where she tracked royalties, monitored plant status and wrote plant descriptions. Estrada also has been a speaker at the Philadelphia Flower Show (2008) and the Northwest Flower & Garden Show (2008) as well as has contributed to the continuing education of sales staffs.


In her new role at Terra Nova Nurseries, Estrada’ expertise will be utilized to carry out much the same scope of responsibility as in her former role. A primary focus will involve producing technical documents and “recipes” for growers in addition to assisting with the company’s extensive trial gardens. Breeding and trialing highlights include Cyclamen, Gaillardia, Echinacea, Heuchera, Heucherella, Kniphofia, Leucanthemum, Hybrid Nepeta, Sedum, Tiarella, and Tradescantia, among others. 


Estrada is a graduate of Washington State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture. She also has served as Chair for the OAN Marketing Committee and Chair of the Yard, Garden and Patio Show.
